What happens when you combine expansion and conquest in the spirit of first century Islam with the zeal characteristic of the “path” of Allah? You get a pact between Fatah and Hamas, whose names, when translated, literally mean the above descriptors.

Yesterday marked an historic event: rival Palestinian factions signed an accord to end seven years of violent and often bloody conflict among themselves thereby preparing the way for a unity government. This action not only complicated US-lead efforts to extend Peace Talks another nine months, but resulted in a quick and decisive response on behalf of Israelis.

“Abu Mazen (Abbas) could have chosen peace with Israel instead of peace with a murderous terror organization that calls for the destruction of the State of Israel … which both the United States and the European Union define as a terrorist organization,” responded Israeli Prime MInister Benjamin Netanyahu. He promptly cancelled the scheduled meeting between Israeli peace negotiators and their Palestinian counterparts.

As a result, the IDF held impromptu riot control drills to brace for outbreaks of violence in Judea and Samaria (West Bank) in protest of the failing peace talks.

A peace agreement with the Palestinian Authority, now united with Hamas terrorists who refuse to accept Israel’s right to exist in the region, seems more improbable than ever.
